Material selection

We'll help you find the right materials for your building or renovation location.

Making sure you've got the right materials is a must

We've produced a handy guide to the different standards for material selection across New Zealand, based on the New Zealand Building Code E2/AS1 material tables. Use the guide (top right) to check the right material for your building's exposure zone, then explore the three options below.

Exposure zones run from B (sheltered, inland) through to E (severe sea-spray). Aluminium and copper are suitable right across zones B to E, while prepainted and galvanised steel are best in the less severe zones. Your local team can confirm the exact material for your site during your free visit.

Your options

Choose the right material for your site

Every option is colour-matched across your whole system. Follow the links to see the colours in each range.

MagnaFlow / Maxam

Prepainted steel

MagnaFlow

Our most popular choice for most homes, and the steel of choice in most challenging coastal and estuary environments. MagnaFlow carries a zinc / aluminium / magnesium coating for extra corrosion protection, and helps seal cut edges. Suited to corrosion zones B and C; zone D may need a pre-approval based on your address. Use MagnaFlow Plus (chemically resistant paint) for industrial and geothermal sites.

Endurance Range: AlumiGard or Altimate

Prepainted aluminium

AlumiGard

The Endurance Range is prepainted ColorCote AlumiGard or ColorSteel Altimate aluminium. Aluminium doesn't rust, making it ideal for very severe marine environments, right up to the waterline. Suitable across corrosion zones B, C, D and E.

Natural, uncoated

Copper

A premium, natural metal that ages to a beautiful patina and protects itself over time. Backed by a 20-year warranty and suitable across corrosion zones B, C, D and E.
